Cross River State has recorded a major advancement in its push to develop the Bakassi Deep Seaport, following the formal presentation of updated hydrographic, geotechnical, and geophysical reports, along with a new navigational chart for the project.

The documents mark the completion of the technical phase, and provide critical data required for safe construction and international maritime operations.

Governor Bassey Otu received the documents during a ceremony at the State Executive Council Chambers in Calabar.

The governor noted that the new survey results not only settle long-standing questions about the state’s maritime status, but also lay the foundation for safe and efficient port development, in line with global shipping requirements.

The presentation was led by Rear Admiral Ayo Olugbode, Hydrographer of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydrographic Agency, who said the survey covered all critical parameters for seaport construction, from depth measurements to seabed composition, and was designed to meet engineering and navigation standards required for international port certification.

The Bakassi Deep Seaport, once operational, is expected to facilitate trade, attract private sector investment, create jobs, and position Cross River State as a key gateway in the Gulf of Guinea’s maritime corridor.
