The immediate past Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo have commended what they described as the resilience of Edo People who kept faith with the PDP and its candidate all through the legal processes entered to challenge the result of the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
They communicated this via separate statements released after the Supreme Court affirmed the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo as winner of the said election.
Former Governor Obaseki noted that although they strongly disagree with the decision of the Supreme Court, but as adherents to the rule of law, they are bound by its verdict.
According to him, the iconic manner in which the Edo election was manipulated, coupled with the judicial validation it has received, portends grave danger for Nigeria’s democracy.
On his part, Asue Ighodalo said although he will not and cannot obstruct any judicial pronouncement, he must never fear to speak truth to power and thus described the last governorship election as a robbery which has now been validated by the highest court in the land.
The duo reiterated that God and history see what the courts may not and as such will leave the matter to him to deliver divine justice and redemption at the appropriate time.
