Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has kick-started the rehabilitation of the long-abandoned Ugboha Water Supply Scheme, originally constructed to provide clean and safe water to communities in the Edo Central Senatorial District.

This initiative marks a significant step towards fulfilling the Governor’s campaign promise to tackle the long-standing water scarcity affecting the Esan-speaking communities.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, then the APC governorship candidate in the Edo 2024 election, had in cause of the political campaign, visited the 5 Local Government Areas in Central Senatorial district, where he assured the people of Esanland that he would revive the Ugboha Water Supply Scheme in Esan South East Local Government Area, a facility originally designed to supply safe drinking water to several communities in the zone.

Now, 8 months after his electoral victory, Governor Okpebholo has returned to deliver on that promise, initiating comprehensive rehabilitation work at the water facility, including the installation of modern water infrastructure.

Inspecting the project site on Thursday, the Managing Director of the Edo State Urban Water Corporation, Uyi Ekhosuehi, expressed satisfaction with the progress so far. He reaffirmed the Governor’s unwavering commitment to ending water scarcity across the State.

For many residents, the ongoing work is more than just a project, it’s a long-awaited lifeline. They describe it as a dream come true, especially considering the region’s difficult terrain, where drilling private boreholes is extremely difficult due to the soil composition.

The Ugboha Water Supply Scheme holds deep significance for the people of Esan land , and with the current intervention, hopes are high that consistent clean water supply will finally become a reality.
