Stakeholders across West Africa have gathered in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital to raise their voices over the harsh reality of devastating effect of climate change, a crisis it did little to create.

From devastating floods in coastal communities to droughts crippling farming livelihoods, the impacts of climate change are acutely felt across the sub region

These include rising sea levels, food insecurity, displacement, and the erosion of traditional ways of life.

A leading Climate Justice campainer, Nnimmo Bassey painted a grim picture, highlighting the disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations.

This roundtable is focused on solutions as country representatives presented detailed reports, outlining specific challenges they face and the strategies they’re developing to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change.

A significant theme emerging is the urgent need to rethink Climate Justice in West Africa, ensuring that those least responsible for the crisis are not left to bear the heaviest burden.

The West Africa Climate Justice Roundtable is a crucial step towards galvanizing action. Participants leave Abuja with renewed commitment to advocate for climate justice, both nationally and internationally.
