Niger State Police Command says it has commenced an investigation into the activities of a faceless non-governmental organization that defrauded scores of traders in Minna of 250 million Naira in the guise of supplying them with food items at subsidized prices.

The affected traders deal in the sales of maize, wheat, and sorghum within the Maitumbi area of the Minna metropolis.

Confirming the development, Police spokesman, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, said the “NGO” has absconded, even as the police are also not aware of the number of traders duped.

He further added that the investigation into the case is ongoing and “an effort to arrest the perpetrators is being intensified.”

It was gathered that the NGO intermittently directed the traders to deposit money into an account operated by their company, which the traders obliged, especially in June this year, and none of the traders was supplied with any grain items.

The traders who were highly infuriated with the development decided to storm the alleged warehouse of the NGO to demand the goods paid for, or be refunded of the money deposited.

However, the traders were in total shock when they found out that the warehouse, which the fake NGOs claimed to belong to them was empty, prompting them to report the case to the police.
