Police in Cross River State have arrested a prime suspect linked to the brutal killing of a commercial driver, Agage Ternenge at the Obudu-Benue border, an incident that has drawn public outrage after a video of the attack went viral.

The suspect, 35year-old Adeshina Gilbert from Abonkib in Obudu Urban, was arrested following a targeted operation by officers of the Obudu Division, acting on the orders of the State Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua.

Ternenge, a commercial driver from Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, was reportedly stoned to death last Friday while making a delivery in Obudu.

The attack, which allegedly stemmed from a lingering land dispute between communities in Vandeikya and Obudu, was captured in a disturbing video that has since gone viral on social media, sparking condemnation and calls for justice.

Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua has described the incident as barbaric and a gross violation of human rights, assuring that the Command will leave no stone unturned in tracking down all those involved.

The State Police Command is therefore calling on the public to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations continue and efforts to apprehend other suspects intensify.
