The running mate to the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the 2023 general election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, on Monday returned to the camp of Julius Abure faction of the party .

Datti Baba-Ahmed who has been with the former presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the camp of Nenadi Usman was seen at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja by the Julius Abure faction.

Just last Friday, the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti convened a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja where it ratified the position of Caretaker Committee with Nenadi Usman as interim National Chairman alongside others.

Key figures missing at the meeting included the 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the Vice Presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

But, this Monday, Baba-Ahmed was seen in the meeting convened by the Julius Abure faction, signalling his exit from the Nenadi Usman’s camp.

During the Monday’s NEC meeting, the Abure led faction approved the conduct of State, Local Government and Ward Congress elections, and urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to come up with a schedule in line with the Party’s Constitution and other Extant laws.

The Abure led faction condemned the Friday Executive Committee meeting convened by the Governor of Abia State, describing it as illegal.

The Party resolved not to align with any coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 election.

Datti Baba-Ahmed was however, one of the politicians during the inauguration of the ADC coalition on July 4, 2025

Peter Obi was also seen with the Labour Party’s governorship candidate produced by the Julius Abure faction for the Anambra State 2025 election, George Morghalu during the campaign flag-off last week.
