Team Nigeria’s quest to secure promotion at the ongoing Davis Cup Africa Group III qualifiers in Harare, Zimbabwe, suffered a setback, following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Namibia in their second match on Thursday

Nigeria started their qualification campaign on a strong note, having beaten North African opposition Algeria 2-1 on Wednesday. However, the West Africans were no match for the Southern African nation, who took the team led by Christopher Bulus to the cleaners.

In the first singles rubber, Daniel Adeleye was beaten in straight sets, going down 6-2, 7-6 to Codie Schalk. The second singles rubber was no different from the first, as US-based Christopher Bulus succumbed to another straight sets defeat, losing 6-3, 7-6 to Connor Henry.

Meanwhile, the third encounter of the day, which was the doubles rubber, saw the pair of Canice Abua partner with Daniel Adeleye. However, their partnership did not yield dividends as they were thrashed 6-1, 6-4 by the pair of Codie Schalk and Connor Henry in what was a terrible outing for Nigeria.

All hopes are not lost, though, as Nigeria will get another chance at redemption on Friday (today), when they take to the courts at the Harare Sports Club to continue their bid to secure qualification for the World Group III playoffs.
