A consortium of Nigerian indigenous Super Eagles coaches led by the team’s immediate Past technical director, Augustine Eguavoen look certain to end their interim tenure earlier than expected.

This follows the decision of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, to get a substantive permanent successor to Franco-German Gernot Rhor sacked recently.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick who is convinced like many football loving Nigerians that the interim coaching team led by Eguavoen will fall short, revealed to the Nigerian sports media in Lagos that talks have reached advanced stage to hire the next Super Eagles’ gaffer from Europe.

“We are talking to three coaches at the moment who have very impressive CVs to do the job”, begins the Nigerian Football Federation boss, who however was not specific on how soon the appointment will be made.

” One of the coaches we are talking to include a Portuguese known as Jose Peseiro who most of you have reportedly speculatively on.

“But while I will not undermine the work of the Technical Committee by making any categorical statement on who we are going to give the job, I can tell you that Eguavoen and the rest of the interim coaches have our support to do their job until the permanent coach is contracted as soon as possible.

On what will happen should the NFF fail to get their permanent man in time and Eguavoen goes ahead to win the AFCON in Cameroon, Pinnick said if it happens Eguavoen might remain, while the new man will assume the helm as Technical Adviser.

Amaju Pinnick declared,
“Eguavoen is good but we want the very best which is what Nigeria deserves”
