The Senate has dissolved its Standing Committee on National Security and Intelligence, as well as the Senate Committee on Air Force, citing inefficiency and failure to fulfill their mandates.
According to Senate the leadership, the committees failed to adequately brief the Senate on their responsibilities and did not live up to expectations.
The committees are expected to be reconstituted within one week.
All security committees have been directed to brief the Senate within one week to justify their functionality and continued existence
Prior to its dissolution, the Committee on National Security was chaired by Senator Buba Shehu (APC, Bauchi South), while the Air Force Committee was chaired by Senator Akwashiki Godiya (SDP, Nasarawa North), who has reportedly been absent from plenary for over a year due to illness.
