Arrest and prosecution await anyone caught burning used tyres during New Year crossover activities in Nasarawa State.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced a total ban on the burning of used tyres across the state as part of measures to maintain public safety during the New Year celebrations.

The directive was issued by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, in a statement released in Lafia by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the statement, the Commissioner ordered all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict enforcement of the ban, warning that violators would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He explained that the ban is aimed at protecting critical government and private infrastructure, preventing environmental pollution, ensuring the free flow of traffic, and safeguarding public safety during the festivities.

The Police Commissioner also urged vulcanizers across the state to properly dispose of or remove used tyres from their premises at the close of business each day to prevent unauthorised access.

Parents and guardians were also advised to caution their wards against burning tyres or engaging in other unlawful activities during the celebrations.

CP Shetima Mohammed reaffirmed the commitment of the Nasarawa State Police Command to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free New Year celebration for residents of the state.
