Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, says he met a minimum pension payment of just ₦4,000 to ₦7,000 on assumption of office an amount he admits can hardly sustain any family amid Nigeria’s current economic realities.

He has promised a review of the pension structure to ease their hardship in the shortest possible time

The Governor said this while receiving members of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries in Zamfara State.

The visit by the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries was to appreciate Governor Dauda Lawal for settling long-standing backlog benefits amounting to over ₦13 billion, as well as ensuring prompt and regular payment of pensions.

However, speaking on behalf of pensioners across the state, the association appealed for an upward review of pension rates

Governor Lawal appreciated the recognition from the senior citizens and promised to carefully look into the issue of pension review.

He reaffirmed his administration’s remains unwavering to revitalizing all sectors, particularly education, healthcare, and infrastructure, through judicious deployment of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) which has increased from ₦90 million at inception to ₦5 billion.

The association presented a gift to the Governor as a symbol of gratitude for his commitment to retirees’ welfare.

Earlier, Governor Lawal handed over 10 repaired operational vehicles to the Nigeria Immigration Service to strengthen border surveillance and enhance security operations across the state.

The governor is optimistic that the gesture would significantly support ongoing security efforts and contribute to lasting peace in Zamfara State.
