The Bauchi State Police Command in North-East Nigeria says it has commenced discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of law and order in Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas.

In a statement by spokesperson of the Command, Ahmed Wakil, the investigation is sequel to the recent directives by the Commissioner of Police, Umar Mamman Sanda for deployment of operatives and tactical teams to provide security for lives and properties before, during and after the memorial and book launch in honour of the late Baba Peter Gonto.

It notes that a large number of hoodlums blocked the Bogoro-Tafawa Balewa Road leading to civil unrest in form of protests against the 21-year memorial of the freedom fighter of the Sayawa people which was organised by his children in collaboration with the Zaar Development Association, ZDA which Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TetFund, Professor Suleiman Bogoro was the convener.

Police said, the programme resulted in attacks on innocent citizens, burning of houses, and blockage of some major highways by women and children, as the venue of the event was also touched and the windshield of several vehicles damaged.
