The Federal Government has directed the Nigeria Immigration Service to withdraw and deactivate passports of Nigerians who have officially renounced their citizenship.
According to a statement by Alao Babatunde, media aide to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the directive affects individuals whose renunciation has been approved by the President.

The Minister said the move is backed by Section 29 of the 1999 Constitution, noting that once citizenship is renounced, such individuals are no longer entitled to hold Nigerian passports or other sovereign documents.
He added that the directive aligns with ongoing passport and visa reforms aimed at strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s citizenship system.
