1,018 Health Workers Deployed as Kano Govt, UNICEF Intensify Fight Against Maternal, Child Mortality

The Kano State Government, in collaboration with the UNICEF, has inaugurated 1,018 newly recruited health personnel to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services across the state.

The beneficiaries include 380 Skilled Birth Attendants (SBAs) and 716 Community-Based Health Workers (CBHWs), deployed across 18 selected Local Government Areas. (Confirm figures)

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran, urged the personnel to discharge their duties diligently and uphold professional standards.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving child survival and reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, calling on the workers to engage communities, address malnutrition, and tackle zero-dose immunisation challenges.

The Commissioner added that the state has recorded progress in key health indicators over the past two years.

Also speaking, the Officer-in-Charge of UNICEF Field Office Kano, Karanveer Singh, reaffirmed support for the Maternal, Neonatal and Child Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative and the Community-Based Health Workers programme across 200 wards.

He described the inauguration as a major step toward Universal Health Coverage, noting it will improve access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.

Some of the newly recruited workers pledged to carry out their responsibilities diligently.
