Newly inaugurated President of the Republic of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, on Monday paid an introductory visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence in South-West Nigeria.
President Wadagni arrived at the residence in the afternoon and was received by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who accompanied him to meet President Tinubu.
The two leaders subsequently held a closed-door meeting that lasted about 30 minutes.
The visit comes barely a week after Wadagni’s inauguration as President of Benin Republic. He was sworn into office on May 24, 2026, following his victory in the country’s April 12 presidential election, succeeding Patrice Talon.
President Tinubu had delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent Nigeria at the inauguration ceremony.
Benin Republic, Nigeria’s western neighbour, maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with Nigeria and remains a key partner in regional cooperation within West Africa.
