Ten persons have been convicted by the Federal High Court in Asaba and Benin City for mutilating and abusing the naira by spraying banknotes at social events.
The convictions followed prosecutions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The defendants pleaded guilty to charges of tampering with the naira, an offence under the Central Bank of Nigeria Act.
Justice F. A. Olubanjo sentenced eight of the convicts to 12 months’ imprisonment or an option of a 100-thousand-naira fine each.
