In a preventive step against possible violence by some cultists who celebrate their annual day on 7th of July each year in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, the police embarked on a sting operation arresting 135 suspected cultists and recovery of 26 firearms from them during the raid early Wednesday.
The operation, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, CP Tijani Fatai was carried out simultaneously by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers DPOs, Tactical Commanders and Operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit, VCRU.


According to the police these arrests were made following credible intelligence gathering that some rival groups were mobilising to launch attacks and perpetrate other criminal activities in the state.
Police said the raid yielded 16 dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, battle axes, daggers and knives, as well as cult insignia, assorted charms, illicit drugs, and mobile phones among others.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Adebisi in a statement said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal gangs still at large.
