Senator Victor Umeh from Anambra State, South-East Nigeria had dismissed reports that the 10th National Assembly passed a bill prohibiting public preaching in Nigeria.
Umeh was speaking at the National Conference and 25th Anniversary Thanksgiving of the Catholic Men Organisation of Nigeria, in Abuja, the nation’s capital. He urged Nigerians to disregard what he described as misinformation and seek clarification from credible sources before believing or spreading such claims.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama has called on Nigerians to reject the narrative that Nigeria is a country where anything goes without consequences.
Addressing the congregation, Archbishop Kaigama, challenged Nigerians, particularly Catholic faithful, to lead by example in their various places of assignment.
Kaigama stressed that genuine national transformation begins with personal integrity, responsible citizenship and a commitment to doing what is right.
He also urged Catholic men to translate their numerical strength into effective leadership and active participation in governance calling on them to play a greater role in shaping the nation’s political and social direction, rather than accepting a culture where wrongdoing is tolerated without consequences.

Other Catholic clergymen and faithful at the celebration echoed the call for responsible leadership, integrity and greater commitment to the development of Nigeria.
They emphasised the need for Catholic men to take their responsibilities beyond the Church and become positive influences in their families, workplaces and communities.
The event brought together Catholic men, clergy and faithful from across the country to reflect on the organisation’s 25 years journey and its role in building stronger families, communities and a better nation.
Founded 25 years ago by Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Catholic Men Organisation of Nigeria was established to unite, inspire and mentor Catholic men for spiritual growth, responsible family life, effective leadership and meaningful service to the Church and society.
