Police say forensic evidence has cleared two of its officers of shooting Nurudeen Azeez in Ibadan, Oyo State, South-West Nigeria on 16th August 2021.
In a statement, the Oyo State Command said the case was investigated and concluded in 2021, but resurfaced recently in a viral video.
According to the Command, the officers were on night duty at Ikolaba when they responded to reports of gunshots. During the investigation, a locally made pistol was recovered at the scene, while pellets were extracted from the victim at a hospital.
The Command said forensic tests showed that the two AK-47 rifles signed out by the officers that night were not fired, and the pellets removed from the victim did not match AK-47 ammunition. The recovered pistol showed signs of recent discharge, but investigators could not determine who fired it.

The police concluded that there was no evidence linking the two officers to the shooting. It urged the public and media to be cautious when sharing allegations, especially when investigations have already been concluded.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and evidence-based investigations.
