Flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, were disrupted on Tuesday as aviation unions commenced industrial action over workers’ right to unionise and the alleged non-remittance of five per cent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC), by airlines.
The action left hundreds of airline passengers stranded at the airport, disrupting travel plans and business activities.
While the unions insist the protest is to enforce workers’ rights and secure funds meant for aviation agencies, affected airlines, called for Federal government’s intervention to restore normal operations.
The unions say airlines must respect workers’ right to unionise and remit the five per cent TSC collected on behalf of aviation agencies.

For passengers, the shutdown meant cancelled and delayed flights, with many expressing frustration over the impact on their movement and businesses.
The unions say they are willing to return to the negotiating table following interventions by the Ministry of Aviation and security agencies.
