The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria has backed on going protests and strike by five workers’ unions in the aviation sector, calling on Aithorities to among other demands implement the 5% ticket charges to workers and for airlines to allow for unionisation.
The TUC also took a swipe and 1threatened to shutdown operations at the Abuja Continental hotel which denied unionisation as it backs agitations by Hotel and personnel services senior staff association of Nigeria
At a State of the Nation briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, TUC President Festus Osifo took a swipe on Politicians creating bottlenecks for the actualisation of state police bill in Nigeria, wjile commending security forces on their recent efforts to tame the spate of insecurity and criminality
While commending President Bola Tinubu for increasing the pay of military personnel,Osifo said although the current minimum wage expires in August 2027, a push for increase for other workers will begin much earlier
The TUC president used the opportunity to demand an immediate effort to address the falling value of the Naira and reemphasised its earlier demands for the government to fully embrace the NLNG model of MoU for all of the country’s refineries with a proposal of 49% equity to the federal government
On food security, the labour centre called for adequate security of farmers, subsidy for fertilisers and sustainable policies to support, production and processing to curb over dependent on importation.
