Nigerians in the diaspora have been urged to return home with their expertise, resources, and investments, with assurances of a more conducive business environment and improved security.

The call was made by Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, at a diaspora engagement event ahead of the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NIDEC) in Toronto, Canada.

The event, organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, is aimed at mobilising Nigerians who have excelled globally in medicine, engineering, information technology and other fields, to contribute to national development.

Governor Lawal stressed the need for Nigeria to harness the wealth of knowledge within its diaspora community to drive economic growth.

He urged Nigerians abroad to go beyond remittances and bring home their skills, experience, and financial resources to directly support development in their communities and across the country.

Governor Lawal said his experience in both the private and public sectors has given him insight into the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Nigeria. He called for stronger collaboration between government and the diaspora community.

On security, he assured potential investors that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to creating a safe and enabling environment where businesses can thrive and investments are protected.

He added that the engagement will also provide a platform to discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and identify practical solutions for national development.

The event ended with a renewed appeal by the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for Nigerians abroad to consider returning home to invest their expertise and resources.

Stakeholders at the event noted that stronger diaspora collaboration could significantly boost Nigeria’s economy and accelerate development nationwide.

Other dignitaries expected at the conference include Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, as well as Governors of Kaduna and Anambra States.
