Eighteen persons have lost their lives in a road crash involving a heavy-duty truck at Wuya village along the Bida-Mokwa Road in Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State.
Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aishatu Sa’adu, who confirmed the incident said it was a lone crash involving a heavy-duty truck loaded with goods and carrying 42 passengers, comprising 41 males and 1 female.
She said the accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into a bridge at Wuya.

According to her, 17 male passengers and one female passenger died on the spot, while 22 male passengers sustained serious injuries. Two others were rescued without injuries.
She said the injured victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, while the remains of those who died were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Sa’adu further attributed the crash to fatigue and cautioned drivers against driving when feeling sleepy.
