Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Monday’s Local Government Council elections, describing political parties that withdrew from the exercise as “cowards.”
The Governor said their decision to boycott the election would not undermine the legitimacy of the outcomes.
He stated this while speaking to journalists after casting his vote at Bakin Dutse Polling Unit 008 in Dan Kungibar Ward, Yelwan Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State..
The Governor arrived at the polling centre alongside his wife, Aisha Bala Mohammed, where they joined other voters in a long queue to cast their ballots.
Speaking after performing his civic duty, Governor Bala Mohammed commended the conduct of the election, describing the exercise as a testing ground for his party, the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He challenged political parties that withdrew from the election to participate in the democratic process and test their popularity among the electorate.
The Governor also called on the electorate to have confidence in the electoral process and continue to participate in elections, assuring them that their votes would count.
He cited the recent Osun State election and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allowing the people to exercise their democratic rights.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, Jummai Abubakar, described the election as a hitch-free exercise.
She attributed the smooth conduct of the election to the Commission’s early preparations.
