Yiaga Africa, a non governmental Organisation says the just-concluded Osun Governorship election has provided a crucial test of Nigeria’s electoral preparedness, security neutrality and public confidence ahead of the 2027 general election.
Chairman of the Osun Election Observation Mission, Asmau Maikudi, stated this during a press conference in Osogbo.
According to the group, observations from the election indicate that INEC and the security agencies largely passed the test, particularly in the management of the electoral process and maintenance of security during the exercise.
Maikudi noted that the significance of the election goes beyond Osun State, describing it as the last major election before the 2027 general election and an early test of the Electoral Act 2026 and the new regulatory framework for election administration and results management.

Yiaga Africa says the outcome of the election therefore, provides important lessons for stakeholders, particularly INEC, security agencies and political parties as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections, with public trust remaining central to the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
