Representatives of political parties, youth organisations and other groups are asking the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to build on its conduct of the Osun governorship election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The groups made the call during a march to the INEC headquarters in Abuja, where they presented their assessment of the poll.
The groups say their assessment of the Osun governorship election was largely positive.
They commended INEC for what they described as a credible electoral process and want similar standards maintained in future elections.
For the groups, the outcome of the election also demonstrated the importance of allowing voters to freely choose their leaders through the ballot.
But their message to the electoral commission goes beyond the Osun election.
They want INEC to ensure that voters are treated equally and political parties fairly as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace.
The groups say maintaining public confidence will depend on the electoral commission applying the same standards consistently across states and elections.
