The Young Progressives Congress, YPP has begun the process for the substitution of its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate for the 2027 general election with the emergence of former Labour Party, LP Presidential aspirant, Peter Agada as its new candidate.
Agada was formally affirmed at a Presidential and vice Presidential Candidates substitution primary election held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
It however appears that issues might arise from this development as its former Presidential candidate, Anita Zugwai-Chukwu was conspicously absent at the ceremony.
Section 29 of the 2026 Electoral Act gives room for substitution of candidates with the provisio that it can only come into effect in the case of death or withdrawal of the original candidate.
Questions are being raised if the original candidate of YPP, Anita Zugwai-Chukwu withdrew from the race. Or is the YPP opening itself up for another unending drama?

For now, a new candidate in the person of Peter Agada and Patience Ndidi-Key, who is a United States-based entrepreneur and healthcare professional, as running mate. Agada says the ticket is bringing practical solutions to national problems.
Aisha Mohammed is the YPP Deputy National Chairman. She decribes the substitution affirmation process as a defining moment for the party.
The Young Progressives Party vision tends to build an egalitarian society anchored on Nigerian citizens as the prime resource.
