Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has defended the construction of the proposed flyover along the Oyemekun–Oba Adesida Road corridor in Akure, saying the project is necessary to address persistent traffic congestion in the state capital.
Governor Aiyedatiwa stated this on Monday at the flag-off of the 2.38-kilometre road and flyover project.
The Governor said President Bola Tinubu’s recent warning to governors against constructing unnecessary flyovers does not apply to the Akure project, which he described as a strategic intervention to address the city’s growing traffic challenges.
Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to prudent management of public resources and the execution of projects with direct and measurable benefits to the people.
He said the long-awaited project is part of the state government’s urban renewal and infrastructure development agenda.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed optimism that the flyover and road project will help reposition Akure, the Ondo state capital as a modern, competitive and investor-friendly capital city.
