The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, is using sports to engage young people and keep them away from crime and other social vices.
The Command is achieving this through an Under-15 football tournament organised in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.
The Du in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, is where young footballers are channeling their energy into sports.
The tournament, organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, is part of efforts to engage the younger generation and discourage them from crime and other negative influences.
The organisers explained that sports was chosen as a tool for youth engagement and crime prevention.
Beyond the competition and the opportunity to win laurels, the participants are also being mentored on discipline, responsibility and positive values needed to become responsible members of society.
Teams drawn from across Jos South Local Government Area are taking part in the competition, which will be played at two locations — Du and Zawan.
The tournament is expected to run for two weeks.
