United Nigeria Airlines, UNA, has commemorated the creation of states established on August 27, 1991, describing the development as a defining moment in Nigeria’s history.

The airline noted that the creation of new states brought governance closer to the people and opened new opportunities for economic growth and development.

CAPTION: On August 27, 1991, the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida increased Nigeria’s number of states from 21 to 30, creating Abia, Adamawa, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Osun and Taraba.

UNA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Adedayo Olawuyi, said the states have since evolved into important economic centres, contributing to agriculture, manufacturing, energy, trade and national development.

Olawuyi said states such as Abia and Enugu have developed into major manufacturing and commercial hubs, while Delta and Edo play significant roles in the energy and agricultural sectors.

He added that Taraba, Adamawa, Jigawa and Kebbi remain important agricultural centres, while Kogi’s strategic location makes it a key transport and logistics link between different parts of the country.

He stressed that aviation remains critical to sustaining these economic activities by connecting businesses, traders, students and families across the country.

According to him, every passenger transported between these states represents an opportunity to strengthen commerce, deepen connections and support the economic vision behind their creation.

The airline congratulated the people and governments of the affected states, reaffirming its commitment to providing air connectivity that supports economic growth, mobility and national integration.
