An overnight fire has destroyed a four-bedroom bungalow in Lokongoma community, Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, leaving a family of six homeless.
The fire, which reportedly started at about 10 p.m., gutted one of the detached four-bedroom bungalows located behind Muslim Community Secondary School in the Lokongoma area of Lokoja.
The inferno raged for several hours before the combined efforts of neighbours helped to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The affected family is now appealing for assistance from the Kogi State Government, well-meaning individuals and organisations to help them rebuild their lives after losing their home and belongings to the fire.
The incident has also renewed calls for the repositioning and strengthening of both the state and federal fire services to ensure faster and more effective responses to emergencies.
