The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, to Niger State to coordinate the rescue operation for worshippers recently abducted by terrorists in Borgu Local Government Area.
The operation will be conducted in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt.
Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, who revealed this during an interactive session in Minna, said AIG Olaiya is in the state with all the tactical units and an aerial helicopter for surveillance.
Represented by the Police spokesman, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, CP Adamu Elleman explained that the rescue operation for the abducted victims begins today, in strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.
According to the Commissioner of Police, they are currently analysing their intelligence and strategy for a hitch-free rescue mission, to be assisted by, among others, the Counter Terrorism Unit and the EOD, provided by the Inspector General of Police to aid their work for effective service delivery.
He also revealed that the operation will be carried out with utmost professionalism to avoid casualties among the abducted victims and security operatives.
The Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Magaji, said the State Government will continue to provide security agencies with all the necessary support needed to nip in the bud security challenges bedevilling its people.
Magaji, therefore, called for collective efforts by all in the fight against insecurity in parts of Niger State, stressing that peace is a prerequisite for any meaningful development.
