Residents and communities around some industrial facilities in Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria may now have relief from environmental hazards, following the sealing of four facilities by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA.

The agency says the facilities were shutdown for violating environmental standards, including air pollution and failure to maintain required environmental management documents.

The NESREA enforcement team led by the Head of Operations in Karu Operational Office, Da’am Monday, sealed ABZAT Quarry, Hoafong Mining Trading Company Limited, Emono Venture and Mivanyi Integrated Farms in Nasarawa State.

For people living and working around industrial and agricultural operations, environmental violations can go beyond regulatory concerns, with pollution potentially affecting the quality of the air they breathe, their health and their livelihoods.

NESREA says the enforcement action is part of efforts to prevent activities that threaten environmental sustainability and public health.

While urging operators to comply with environmental laws and adopt responsible practices, including the use of best available technology, NESREA says the exercise demonstrates its resolve to protect communities from environmental hazards and promote sustainable development across the country.

NESREA also reiterates that facilities operating without complying with environmental standards will continue to face enforcement action.
