The Nigerian Federal Government has commenced moves to operationalise the 112 national emergency number across the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima gave the directive on Tuesday in Abuja during a stakeholders’ meeting on the National Emergency Number 112 Project.
He directed relevant agencies and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive operational roadmap and standard procedures for the nationwide rollout of the emergency number.
The National Economic Council had approved 112 as Nigeria’s single toll-free emergency number to provide citizens with quicker access to help during fires, accidents, medical emergencies and security threats.

The Vice President assured stakeholders that the Federal Government would provide the necessary resources to drive the implementation of the project.
The meeting had representatives of the Police, NCC, NEMA, FRSC, NOA and other relevant agencies.
