The Office of the Vice President has clarified remarks made by Vice President Kashim Shettima on the support President Bola Tinubu received from northern governors ahead of his emergence as the APC presidential candidate.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President said his reference to six northern governors was specifically about consultations before the June 2022 APC primary and not about their position after Tinubu emerged as the candidate or during the 2023 election.
Vice President Shettima noted that after the primary, northern APC governors rallied around the party’s candidate and played key roles in the campaign that led to President Tinubu’s victory, adding that he holds the governors in high regard and regrets any misinterpretation of his comments.
