The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, says it has rescued more than 3,000 victims of human trafficking and gender based violence so far in 2026.
The Agency is also warning young Nigerians against fraudulent online recruitment platforms and offers of lucrative jobs abroad, which it says are increasingly being used to lure victims into trafficking.
The warning came in Abuja during a reception for survivors of human trafficking who recently returned to Nigeria.
NAPTIP cautioned young people seeking opportunities abroad to verify recruitment offers before travelling, warning that traffickers often disguise their activities as legitimate employment opportunities.
Some of the survivors recounted their experiences after leaving Nigeria with expectations of better opportunities abroad.
They called for greater support for returnees, particularly rehabilitation, skills acquisition and economic empowerment to help them rebuild their lives.
NAPTIP says more than 3,000 victims of human trafficking and gender based violence have been rescued so far this year.
The Agency says prevention remains critical and is urging Nigerians, particularly young people, to be cautious about online recruitment and promises of employment abroad.
