Insecurity has dominated reflections as Zamfara State marks 30 years since its creation, with past and present leaders renewing calls for peace and an end to the security challenges confronting the state.
The anniversary, which coincided with Nigeria’s 66th Independence celebration, also recorded a milestone with the arrival of the first commercial flight at Gusau International Airport.
Thirty years after its creation, Zamfara is celebrating its journey as a state, but insecurity remains central to conversations about its present and future.
The twin celebrations of Zamfara at 30 and Nigeria at 66 began in Gusau with a ceremonial parade by the Nigeria Police and other participating formations.
Attention then shifted to speeches and prayers, led by Zamfara’s first Military Governor, Jibrin Bala, and former Governor Sani Yerima

Their messages centred on peace, security and economic development.
Governor Dauda Lawal acknowledged the challenges that have confronted the state over the years, while highlighting progress his administration says has been recorded in healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, security, education and human capital development.
Former governors and representatives of past administrations joined security chiefs, traditional rulers and other dignitaries at the celebration.
But beyond the anniversary ceremonies, another chapter opened for the state with the arrival of the first commercial flight at Gusau International Airport.
For Zamfara, the 30th anniversary provided an opportunity to measure three decades of development against a security challenge that remains critical to the state’s future.
