Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has formally presented the Staff of Office and Certificate of Recognition to the newly crowned Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja.
King MacPepple Jaja was crowned on September 26 and assumes the traditional title of Jeki the Sixth, becoming the sixth Amanyanabo of Opobo since the kingdom was founded by the legendary King Jaja in 1870.
The new monarch succeeds the late Dandeson Douglas Jaja, who passed away last year and was laid to rest on April 11, 2026.
The presentation of the Staff of Office marks another significant milestone in the transition of leadership of the historic Opobo Kingdom.

A titled citizen of the kindom himself, Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the day will go down as one of his happiest.
As Jeki the Sixth, King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja now assumes the responsibility of providing traditional leadership and carrying forward the legacy of the Opobo throne.
While praying that his reign brings more development to the kingdom, Governor Fubara urged the monarch to carry everyone along. He also wants the King to take the issue of security very seriously.
On his part, King Charles Douglas MacPepple Jaja promised to uphold the sacred trust bestowen on him by the people and government of Rivers State. The King also urged his people to remain peaceful and join hands with him to build a united and more prosperous Opobo Kingdom.
