The sensitisation campaign on the use of CNG-Powered vehicles by the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles has moved to universities across Nigeria.

At Bayero University Kano, the presidential initiative donated three additional CNG-powered buses to the institution and introduced an incorporated skilled programme to provide engineering students with hands-on practical training in CNG vehicle conversion while they are still in school.

Bayero University is now the poineer institution in Nigeria to embrace the initiative. Students and staff of the institution are set to enjoy afforadable transportation.

The programme featured the donation of three additional CNG-powered buses to the university to reduce transportation costs and improve mobility for staff and students, following previous donations.

In partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund and FEMADEC, the implementing organisation, the initiative is promoting CNG adoption across Nigerian universities, beginning with Bayero University, Kano.

The Manager, Investor Relations at the Presidential Initiative, Louisa Afu, addressed issues around safety concerns surrounding CNG technology and highlighted its benefits.

The initiative is also introducing practical CNG vehicle conversion training into engineering education across 20 universities in Nigeria at no additional cost to participating institutions.

The programme begins at Bayero University, Kano, providing students with opportunities to develop technical skills and improve their prospects for future employment.

Staff and students welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the CNG-powered buses would reduce transportation costs while promoting cleaner and more sustainable mobility on campus.

The university’s CNG conversion centre is expected to provide students with hands-on experience and opportunities to participate in the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and other industrial training programmes.
