Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has challenged opposition figures Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to demonstrate their political control in both northern and southern Nigeria, arguing that neither region alone can deliver victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Yari spoke on Friday after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, where discussions focused on preparations for the ruling party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council Director-General questioned the opposition’s political strength, asking whether the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate could claim control of any state in southern Nigeria, and whether Peter Obi could point to a state under his party’s control in the North.
Yari argued that a presidential candidate who commands substantial support in one region but lacks a foothold in the other would struggle to secure victory at the polls.
He cited the electoral experience of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that strong support in the North alone had not initially translated into presidential victory.
The APC chieftain, however, claimed that President Tinubu enjoys considerable support in both regions, expressing confidence in the ruling party’s position ahead of the 2027 general election.

Yari also disclosed that the APC campaign flag-off is scheduled for October 24 in Kaduna, following an inaugural meeting of the Presidential Campaign Council on October 14.
He identified Port Harcourt and Maiduguri as among the next destinations on the proposed campaign itinerary, adding that the complete schedule would be released after the inauguration.
Yari defended the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, maintaining that the government had begun changing the circumstances it inherited and that the APC would campaign on its achievements rather than promises.
He insisted that the ruling party would continue to present its record to Nigerians as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
