The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria has alleged that some government officials are preventing its leadership from meeting Governor Dauda Lawal to discuss challenges facing Christians in the state.
The association says it has struggled to secure an audience with the Governor in the three years of his administration.
The allegation was made during the procession to mark the 50th anniversary of CAN in Nigeria as members of the Christian community in Zamfara State joined their counterparts across the country to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the association.
The procession began at about 8am in front of the Yerima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, with participants marching through major streets of the state capital to the First Baptist Church, Gusau.

Speaking to journalists, the State CAN Chairman, Michael Afolabi, expressed gratitude to God for the association’s 50-year milestone.
He also prayed for lasting peace in Nigeria and Zamfara State, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Afolabi also expressed concern over the alleged difficulty in securing a meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal, whom he described as a friend of the Christian community to discuss issues bordering its secretariat, fencing of burial ground, education support and others.
The procession ended with a message to members, highlighting issues affecting Christians in Zamfara State and the need to address their concerns.
