Bauchi State Government has taken its gratuity payment exercise to the doorstep of an ailing 71-year-old retired teacher in Ningi Local Government Area, in compliance with Governor Bala Mohammed’s directive to reach retirees who are physically unable to attend designated payment centres.
The gratuity verification and payment committee travelled from Bauchi to Ningi, about 100 kilometres away, to attend to Haruna Sabo Ganji, a retired teacher who served in the local government education system before retiring in 2013.
The 71-year-old, who is currently battling serious health challenges, was unable to attend the designated payment venue, prompting the committee to visit his residence to verify his condition and facilitate the payment of his long-awaited entitlement.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the committee to convey Governor Bala Mohammed’s appreciation for his years of service to the state and his contributions to the education sector.
Expressing gratitude, Haruna Sabo Ganji thanked the governor for extending the payment exercise to his residence, describing the intervention as a relief after years of waiting for his gratuity.
He also prayed for the success of the Bala Mohammed-led administration.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Ningi Local Government Area, Abdullahi Abdulkarim, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise to retirees.
He said the payment of outstanding gratuities would help ease the financial difficulties and other economic challenges facing retired civil servants.
It could be recalled that governor Bala Mohammed recently released the sum of ten Billion naira as first tranch in an effort to clear the back log of gratuities in Bauchi State.
