The Federal Government has filed fresh charges against Adeniyi Adeyemi, accused of impersonating as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
The development led to the termination of the earlier eight-count charge against Adeyemi at the Federal High Court in Abuja, by Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, who struck out the case.
During proceedings on Monday, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that a review of the case by the Attorney-General of the Federation revealed that the alleged offences relating to forged documents were within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court.
Oyedepo stated that the new charge had been filed at the FCT High Court and that the defendant would be arraigned afresh.
He then asked the court to strike out the existing charge before it.
Counsel for Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, did not oppose the application, promoting Justice Umar to grant the request and terminate the proceedings.
Adeyemi was facing an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation over his claim to be the Director-General of the PFIPC, an organisation the Presidency has disowned and labelled as “fake”.
