Ahead of the 2027 polls, the European Union, EU, Election Observation Hub has recommended that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC should redesign polling unit layout and improve on the use of voting cubicles while instructing officials to monitor and stop display of marked ballots.
The recommendations came at the dissemination reports of the EU-SDGN Post-election findings on Ekiti and Osun governorship elections held in Abuja.
The Union also cautioned political parties on the misuse of incumbency power and state resources for electoral purposes in order to adhere to the provisions of the electoral legal framework, calendar and schedule of electoral activities.
The hub also tasked the Commission and key players to arrest and prosecute vote buyers and sellers while transparency of results should be prioritised at all cost, with accountability for electoral violence, as gender and persons with disabilities data is disaggregated data for effective capturing.
The Union called for adoption of counter intrusive measures against cyber attacks on election technology infrastructure, generative AI information disorder and foreign information manipulation and interference.
It tasked INEC over reinforcement of trust in the result collation process by making the chain fully transparent and traceable from polling unit to declaration as well as publication on IREV.
