The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has adjourned the case of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to December 8 following changes in legal representation by the prosecution.
The court also adjourned the hearing of a fresh bail application filed by the second defendant, Jimi Lawal, to Friday, the 16th, to allow the prosecution time to study relevant court processes.
Addressing journalists after Wednesday’s proceedings, counsel to the ICPC, Ibrahim Mukhtar disclosed that the prosecution had filed a counter-affidavit opposing Lawal’s bail application but was yet to formally present its arguments before the court.
Counsel to El-Rufai, Mustapha Abubakar, SAN, told journalists that the newly appointed prosecution counsel had informed the court of the change in legal representation and requested more time to familiarise himself with the case.
On the bail application filed by the second defendant, counsel for the applicant moved the application before the court.
However, the prosecution requested additional time to study a further affidavit filed in response to its counter-affidavit.
Abubakar said the second defendant’s counsel agreed to the adjournment in the interest of fair hearing.
The substantive case has been adjourned to December 8 for hearing, while the bail application is scheduled for further proceedings on Friday, the 16th.
