Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has called for transparency and fairness in the implementation of the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer programme, warning that political interests must not interfere with the disbursement of funds.
He spoke while receiving officials of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, NSIPA, at Government House in Gusau.
The visit was to brief the governor on plans to extend the Federal Government’s social investment programme to thousands of households in Zamfara State.
Under the proposed arrangement, each eligible household is expected to receive an ATM card credited with ten thousand naira.
Governor Lawal said his administration would support the initiative to ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the financial assistance.
He stressed that access to government social intervention programmes should be based on eligibility rather than political affiliation.
The governor’s remarks came as the delegation presented some of the ATM cards to him in a symbolic flag-off of the disbursement process.
The programme is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to provide financial assistance to vulnerable households.
