President Bola Tinubu has nominated four new national commissioners and two Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following vacancies arising from the expiration of tenures.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also reappointed Dr Bala Bila as the national commissioner representing the North-East.
The new national commissioners include Professor Mustapha Aliu, representing the North-West, and Bashir Muhammed Umar, representing the North-Central.
Oluwatoyin Babalola, the current Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, has also been nominated as the South-West national commissioner, replacing Professor Cornelius Ajayi, whose tenure expires on October 24.
For the Resident Electoral Commissioner positions, President Tinubu nominated retired permanent secretary, Dr Samuel Akinjide Akinleye, to represent Ekiti State, and Zahradden Basiru Sanusi, from Jigawa State, to replace Professor Saidu Ahmed Babura.
The nominations are subject to Senate scrutiny and confirmation.
President Tinubu has urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process ahead of the forthcoming general elections scheduled for January.
