The Abuja Leadership Centre in Public Governance and Leadership says true leadership preparation goes beyond teaching young people how to lead; it requires instilling integrity, accountability, and respect for public resources.
The issue took centre stage at the North-West edition of the Youth Leaders Clinic 2026 in Kaduna State.
One hundred and twenty students from 15 secondary schools across Kaduna State have converged on Kaduna State University for the clinic, themed “Empowering the Next Generation.”
Organised by the North-West postgraduate students of the Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, the event equips school prefects with skills in decision-making, time management, conflict resolution, public speaking, teamwork and ethical leadership.
Director of the Abuja Leadership Centre, Professor Abdulhamid Ozohu-Suleiman, emphasised that leadership remains critical to national development, stressing the need to begin training at the secondary school level. At the same time, young people develop the values that shape their future decisions.
