‎
‎In a major push to strengthen border security, combat identity fraud, and tackle transnational crimes, the federal government has integrated over fifteen million migration records into the Border Control and Immigration Management (BCIMS).
‎
‎The initiative was disclosed at the closing ceremony of a specialised training programme on border control and immigration management in Abuja.
‎
‎The Nigeria Immigration Service says the training of 87 officers is designed to improve the use of the Border Control and Immigration Management System and address fragmented databases across government agencies.
‎
‎The move is expected to promote seamless information sharing and ensure that immigration data is better coordinated with records held by other security and government institutions.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the ongoing reforms were part of the Federal Government’s efforts to build a sustainable and technology-driven system capable of meeting future security challenges.
‎
‎The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, while charging the officers on professionalism, emphasised the need for effective use of the system to strengthen border control and contribute to a safer Nigeria.
‎
‎Five standards have also been established for officers operating the equipment: accuracy, integrity, sound judgement, readiness, and accountability.
